BACKSPIN
Barbershop Quartet

Backspin enjoys singing classic barbershop harmony with the Lamplighter chorus as well as in their quartet. They
also specialize in "50's" harmonies and recognizable old favorites that will make you tap your feet and sing along.
But, please, not too loud - we get confused easily and sing the wrong words.  (Just kidding).

Backspin enjoys over 80 years of barbershop experience among them.

BOB SHAFFER - Bari

A barbershopper for 14 years, Bob was
first introduced to quartet singing in a
church choir quartet known as "Four All
Time". He was a lead back in those days,
but never seemed to get the hang of
getting his fellow singers to follow
him. Bob sang tenor with "Four Guys
From Mesa", lead and then baritone
with "love@home", and bass with
"Desert Song" and "4 All Time".
Having tried all four parts out, he
decided that baritone, in spite of the
ridicule heaped upon such singers, was
the part for him.  Bob is very active in the
management of the Mesa Lamplighters.
He is married to his best friend, the
beautiful Jenifer, and they have a cute
teen-age daughter Katie (back off, boys!).

JERRY FOX - Bass

A barbershopper for 30 years, Jerry
has been singing barbershop since
he was 15, when he joined his first
quartet - "Coney Island Hot Dogs".
Jerry continues to be active in what has
become his passion - Youth in Harmony,
the Barbershop Society's youth outreach
program.  Jerry has also served as the
director of the Lamplighter Chorus, and
is currently chapter president.

DALE WEATHERFORD - Lead

A barbershopper for 22 years, Dale has been singing in groups since 1963,
when he started as a boy soprano.
He has sung in large classical groups,
Madrigals, and folk groups, and once
spent 4 years singing lead in a rock and
roll band.  He has sung barbershop with
many groups over the years.  Dale is
the founding president of the Mesa chapter.  His many awards include
winning a 4th place bronze medal in
1966 with the Phabulous Phoenicians
Chorus, and winning the AZ Division
Novice Quartet contest in 1988 with
"Seems Like Old Times". Dale just
enjoys singing all kinds of music...

ANDY HARRY - Tenor

A barbershopper for 14 years, Andy
first sang Bass with a chorus in the
Seattle area before moving to Arizona
and upgrading to Tenor(!).
  Participating
in church choirs and community choirs
since he was 25 years old he has been
singing for, oh, a long time.
  He first
heard barbershop harmonies as a child
at family gatherings when his father
and uncles, all barbershoppers them-
selves, sang about Old Mill Streams
or someone named Lida Rose. Andy
is the senior member of the quartet
and the newest daddy - with a beautiful
3-year-old daughter. Really cute!
The daughter-that is!  Apparently the
cute genes skipped his generation.
